Most of us if not all, have asked ourselves the intriguing
question, “what is the purpose of life?” There are many
rational reasons to believe in The One True Creator, Allāh.
The following are evidences that indicate His Divine
Existence as well as some compelling reasons to believe in
Him.
The first evidence that indicates Allāh’s existence is Al-Fitrah,
the innate disposition that entails recognition of our Creator
and His divine right to be worshipped (Alone) without any
partners (i.e. Tawhid). This is the default state of everyone at
birth, as the Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and
blessings of Allāh be upon him) has informed us:
“Each child is born in a state of Al-Fitrah, then hisparents
make him a Jew, Christian or a Majūs (fire worshipper)”
[Bukhārī & Muslim]
This
innate
disposition
which our Creator created
us upon (i.e. Al-Fitrah) is our
acknowledgement of His
existence and the Divine
Right for Him to be
worshipped (Alone). Hence,
why we hear (even) an
atheist crying out, “God,
help me” at times of
desperate need.
Understanding the origin of the universe can tell us about
our Creator’s existence. Consider the following: “Imagine
walking to the kitchen one morning, only to find that your
favourite breakfast of pancakes covered in maple syrup was
perfectly prepared. At first, you’re surprised, but why? Did
the ingredients all come together to pour itself into the
frying pan to be cooked at the perfect temperature all by
chance?” Every person who is rational, sane and of sound
logic will reject that this breakfast made itself or occurred
by chance (without any cause). If this is the case with a
“meal” then what about the universe which is far more
complex? The same logic above can be applied to the
origin of the universe. Thus, the conclusion of its Origin is
one of the three:
1.the universe caused itself
2.it came from nothing
3.it was caused (by the
Creator)
The earth’s perfect distance from the sun, such that the
sun does not incinerate us.
The perfect speed at which the earth revolves.
In our previous example of pancakes, it was perfectly
rational to assume that someone who possessed
knowledge, will and power made them. So, doesn’t it
make more sense to attribute the design of the universe in
light of its perfection to a Supreme Creator? It is simply
irrational to assume that the universe in light of its
magnitude and perfection is the result of blind,
ignorant and random forces
that acted without will. As
human beings, we have a
natural tendency to attribute
“cause” to things, let alone
intelligently designed ones!
In short, the order and perfection
we observe in the universe is only a
reflection of The One True Creator,
Allāh.
The first two points oppose basic human logic. As humans,
we have a natural tendency to attribute “a causer” to
“caused things”. Thus, the most rational and logically
coherent explanation is that the Creator Who possesses
Knowledge, Will and Power caused the universe. The notion
that something can come from nothing or that something
can create itself defeats basic human logic.
Also, in recent times scientific research has shown that
children are innately predisposed to believe. For example,
Dr Oliveria Petrovich who conducted several studies on
children from various cultures and faiths, concluded that
belief in God as the Creator is hard-wired in children. And
similarly, Prof Justin Barrett who conducted an international
Oxford University study concluded that children are born
believers. Thus, belief in the existence of the Creator is both
the default and natural state of every human being, and
anything contrary to that is a result of a- corrupted Fitrah
(innate disposition)
